We appreciate your travelling to celebrate our anniversary. New Haven is a small city with a lot of great things to do. If you plan on staying in the downtown area (near the Omni) there is a wide variety of restaurants and bars to choose from, a grocery store, shopping, convience stores, and stuff to do all within walking distance. Here's a few tips to help you plan your trip.
Lodging
Ground Transportation
Parking: For those driving or renting a car just a warning parking in New Haven isn't cheap (~$20-30/day in parking garages). There are hotels you can book a bit outside the city to avoid this.
Shuttles: Shuttles to and from airports can be coordinated. In general if you're traveling with a large group this can save you some money especially considering the cost of parking.
Flying
Tweed New Haven(HVN): Direct flights to New Haven from Midway (CHI) and more. A 10 minute cab ride to the hotel.
Hartford(BDL): one hour drive north of New Haven. Accessible by train and cabs.
New Jersey(EWR): an Amtrak train (~2 hrs) operates between the airport and New Haven Union station. You'll need to book train tickets ahead of time.
New York(LGA,JFK): While these airports tend to have cheaper flights, New York is about a two hour drive from New Haven (depending on traffic). Accessible to New Haven by subway and train.
Haze and Brad's Favorite Bites
Zenelis: Haze and brad's go-to spot, authentic Italian food - rated top restaurant in New Haven by Yelp.
Barcelona: Spanish tapas, great for V/VG and meat eaters.
Noa: fun Asian/Thai fusion food, try the green string beans or tofu drunken noodles!
Claire's Corner Copia: A V/VG cafe serving fresh breakfast and lunch items. Great baked goods too!
Pizza: New Haven is known for its style of (A)pizza. Check out Frank Pepe's, Sally's, and Modern.
Haze and Brad's Favorite Bars
Barcelona: Great wine selection.
Elm City Social: Try the rubber ducky!
Ordinary: Try the smokey cocktail.
Via Gastrobar: Italian tapas style food with great cocktails and fun/vibrant atmosphere.
Olives and Oil: Wine on TAP!
Attractions
Yale's Campus: Beautiful buildings, libraries, and outdoor spaces.
Yale Art Museum: Paintings from pretty much every known artist. Cool historical artifacts.
Sleeping Giant State Park: About a half hour drive away; great trails and rocks to climb.
East Rock Park: Either walk up via trails or drive to the top to get a bird's eye view of New Haven that extends to the ocean.
